I was asked to take part in this review of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser (and one other item yet to come) and since we have a rambunctious Golden Retriever, I agreed! She turned ONE year old today and because of her shedding issues lately we took her to get her groomed this past weekend. Her fur is all over the place and since this has been an issue since spring arrived, I certainly agreed to this review offer.
When agreeing, I was thinking though that this item was a handheld hair remover. I did not realize it was a FULL SIZED vacuum so imagine my surprise when we arrived home from the office to find it sitting on our doorstep. I could not stop laughing. What a shock!
My first thought was OH NUTS! How am I going to review this when I have another well known pet vacuum. How could this compare? I mean really…mine cost $550 while this one costs just $150. SURELY IT CAN’T HANG. (or so I thought!)
I took my vacuum and ran it over the floor in the family room – TWICE. Then, it was time to put this Bissell Pet Hair Eraser to the test to see if it could get anything. OH MY! I was certainly not prepared for the results. I was disgusted by what was still in our carpet – even after TWO times over with our other vacuum!
TOTALLY UNWILLING TO CONCEDE, I took mine apart and cleaned every bit of it while my hubs sat in the background getting a total kick of this. I then set it out to dry. I had to give it two days to fully dry before I could try again.

After two days, I started over. I tested them in so many ways! Side by side, one after the other and so on. I still sit here (even after witnessing all of this with my own two eyes) in disbelief. I am trying to take into account that ours is 5 years old, but I still don’t think that this is a reason for it to get it’s Hepa kicked like it did!
If you are a Facebook Fan of Nickels-n-Dimes or a friend of my hubs, you will already be familiar with our conversations about this entire process. My sister in law (who also has the one I had) decided that she needed to cuddle hers so that it still felt love. She too could not believe what I was reporting! One fan asked if I was giving away the other brand because she so wanted one.
GUESS WHAT THOUGH? YOU DON’T HAVE TO SPEND $550 TO GET AWESOME RESULTS! Save that other $400 and put it towards a great vacation or something fun for your family!
Instead, I challenge you to read below and put this review to work for you. This, in my opinion, is my most impressive review to date and the one with the most mind blowing outcome to date. I am incredibly impressed!
You will notice that I have the image of my newest favorite household tool numbered. I would like to take you on a walk through of my thoughts with this vacuum. While I have a just two items I would change about it, they are not enough for me to not make it my new vacuum of choice.
- This is a rotating beater bar that can be used for steps, rugs or whatever you might like the rotation of the brush to get a good, deep down clean. I really like that it has a place ON the vacuum as mine other model did not have a place to hold it. I had to keep it in the closet and go get it when I needed it.
- This is where you grab to hold the vacuum for transport. It makes going up and down the steps with it so easy. It’s large enough to hold firmly and has a comfortable shape that makes getting a good grip easy.
- This is such a COOL TOOL! It bends and conforms to whatever you might be using it for. It’s great for doing the edge of steps as it conforms to the shape and had “spikes” that also help lift hair and carpet fibers that need to be vacuumed up.
- This is the dirt cup. This is only one of two items I would change. While it is very easy to remove, it’s not very big and it can be messy if allowed to get too full before cleaning out. I think that they should consider another design that is a bit larger and without the possibility for a messy cleanup if not emptied in time.
- This is the pet hair remover bar. It goes up and down. When in the down position, it must really do something because the results on my carpet were amazing! It has a strip that helps to lift the hair and allows you to easily remove it when making another pass over.
- This is your Hepa filter that is a necessary with pets!
The only other thing I would change besides #4 (the dirt cup) is the weight. It is noticeably heavier in the handle area than my other model. Like I said, that is not going to stop me from making this my newest favorite tool, but it is something that I feel should be addressed if possible.
If you are not sure whether or not to believe this, you may want to ask a neighbor as one of them may have seen me using my old model on our SUV this past weekend. My husband came out and said…”oh what? You aren’t going to use your new and mighty Bissell?” I told him no, as our old vacuum is now my outdoor model. I don’t want to ruin my new one! LOL
My absolute honest recommendation is to save yourself $400 and head to Target, Kohls, Best Buy, Lowes, Sears, Shopko, Meijer, Amazon or Linens N Things and get yourself the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. This vacuum put mine to shame!

I was contacted and was offered to try out this Bissell Pet Hair Remover vacuum thanks to Bissell and Wordsworth. I can’t thank them enough because I truly don’t think I would have ever believe that this vacuum was as awesome as it really is. I was sent a vacuum to use and keep so my review could be completed. I was also offered one to giveaway to one of YOU!

Wow cant wait to see what the contest is would love to win. Your review makes me want to go buy one right now. I have a lab and allergies so I had been hoping to win the lottery lol to buy a dyson but after your review there is hope yet. So excited to see what the contest will be.
Kevin bought me this sweeper about a year or so ago and I loved it except MY hair broke it. I shed my long hair and it got caught around the belt and burnt up the motor. It did an amazing job while it worked but be careful and watch so that it doesn’t do the same thing to you. If you have long hair and shed, which I do, just keep a close eye on that. Otherwise, the first time you use this, you will be amazed….and completely grossed out! LOL And actually have a feeling of accomplishment when running the sweeper!
i have the next step down and i hate it. yes it picks up my dogs hair (and assuming mine) it is the messiest vacuum ive ever owned. like mentioned above the cup fills almost instantly and makes a massive mess to dump. when i use my hose dirt comes out the opening where you put the hose when youre done. and my little rotating brush attachment stopped working after two or three uses. and only after fighting for weeks with bissel asking them to stand behind their products, and since my machine was still under warranty, either refund my money (still had receipt) or even offered to take a lesser bagged model. they finally offered to look at it but it would take as long as three weeks or more to acess it. in the end they only replaced the attachment. will never by a bissel again.
I just went to tell my hubby that I now know what I want for my anniversary next month. I have long hair, I have a sheltie, and a cat. I find hair on everything. Thanks for the review of this product.
Brandy make sure you check it regularly with long hair. Mine lasted about a three months because of my long hair wrapping around the pet hair remover bar and burnt up the motor. There was no warnings that this was happening until we smelled the burning motor.
It does work great though!
Thanks…..I am checking other reviews too. I love being able to get other people’s advice before I spent $$ on something I will not like.
I really don’t want to spring for a vacum now, but this review has me thinking…
I’ll stay tuned for more info. My lab/beagle mix sheds a lot!
BTW, When do you have TIME to be a wife, mom, work full time, keep your awesome blog up AND do things like this?? I’m afraid I’ve never taken my vacum apart myself to clean!
I have the Bissell Healthy Home and LOVE IT. It works better than my mom’s Dyson, and cost about $400 less!

Hmmm…..I have the same pretty purple Dyson as shown above. I would be skeptical had you not had the same vacuum as I do……and I was grossed out when I did the same test w/ the Dyson (as compared to my Hoover…)
I use it EVERY day…..
Becky, I’m right there with you! This vacuum is amazing. I am also embarrassed to say how much we suctioned up – we have a chocolate lab, Bailey and boy does our girl shed. I laughed when I took a photo of all the gunk and a fully intact pretzel somehow made it in unscathed.

This was shocking for me! I am in! I want to win. I have a German Shep. He sheds ALL the time. I also have that “other” vacuum you own. I have been convinced it was the best for the hair and have convinced others to purchase one..and now there is something better?!?! I just can’t believe it! You have my attention!
