As you found on this site, many of these stores offer amazing ways to save that most never imagined. Walgreen’s is no different in that respect, but they are very different (and more challenging) than CVS in their rewards / incentive / coupon program and policies.
Walgreen’s offers Register Rewards (register rewards) and store coupons that can all combine with manufacturer coupons.
FYI:
- Walgreens does NOT double coupons.
- Walgreens does NOT have a store card.
- Walgreens has marked down clearance items throughout the store on a regular basis.
- They are known to be “not so coupon friendly”.
- Register Rewards expire 2 weeks from date of issue. Unlike CVS, once these expire, they are GONE. Make sure you use them before they are no longer valid.
- If you see a store Q in the weekly ad, make sure you take it with you. You cannot count on them automatically taking it off at checkout. You need to prompt the savings.
- Register Rewards can only be earned once per item. If you want to earn more than one, you need to do separate transactions AND you need to NOT pay with Register Rewards from another transaction in which you purchased the same item. If you do, the register will recognize this and no more Register Rewards will print. (This is one aspect that is much better at CVS than here at Wags)
- If you find your transaction has one coupon for every single item, you may need to throw something up (very inexpensive) as sometimes, the Register Rewards don’t go through because they have nothing to attach to. If you ever have a time that it’s not going through, throw a candy bar up there – I bet it works and the kids will love you for it! (Unless you keep it quiet and enjoy the rewards of your hard work yourself!)

I tend to use my RR at Meijer that way they do not expire and I don’t have to worry about using them for the same product.
Huh? you can use your register rewards at meijer???
Can you really use your register rewards at Meijer? If that is the case, I will not hesitate to make purchases at Walgreens from now on.
I was at Walgreen’s today to use my RR from 2 weeks ago (I had like $70 worth!). Anyway, your last point about maybe needing equal numbers of items as coupons- I discovered today that you absolutely need as many items bought as coupons used, and that includes the RR. I ended up throwing on like half a dozen candy bars that I didn’t need, simply because the computer would not accept my RR after my manufacturer’s cpns. It was a pain in the butt, but good to know for next time!
