The giant of Superstores, Walmart is a contender in the low price hunt. Their policies are very different from Kroger and Meijer. While they do not offer their own store coupons, they do offer a different, valued way to save – PRICE MATCHING! Let’s get into the details of Walmart!
The following facts and stats are current at the time of posting and accurate for the Greater Cincinnati Market.
- PRICE MATCHING: One of the best things that you can find in Walmart is their price match policy! Price matching works like this:
- Bring in another store ad to receive the price match.
- They do not match percentage off offers.
- They do not match deals that include another stores’ coupons or promotion (such as Extra Care Bucks or Register Rewards).
- The item must be the same brand and size as that advertised in the other store’s ad.
- NOTE: this is a great policy, but it may not turn out to be as valuable as getting the item from the original store if you are needing a coupon doubled for the best amount saved.
- Walmart does NOT price match their own stores. If you live in an area where there are more than one store and your store tends to be higher priced, make the drive to the other Walmart.
- The price match must be on a store in a reasonable distance. You can not bring in Grandma’s ad from Tennessee when you live in Ohio!
- DOUBLE COUPONS: Walmart does NOT double coupons. All coupons presented are scanned and deducted from your total at face value.
- STORE COUPONS: Walmart does NOT offer store coupons.
- PRINTABLE COUPONS: Walmart DOES accept printable coupons. With this said, I know that many of you have had issues at some point with printables. My advice? Always try to leave the words around the coupon that print from Coupon.com and similar sites. This shows the store the added level of protection that comes with this coupon and shows it is from a legit site.
- (Please note these following printable tips are not Walmart specific). Print your coupons from reliable sources. For a list of reliable printable coupon site, please GO HERE. Do not (ever) use coupons that pull up in MS Word or a similar program. Stores do not put out coupons in this manner. CENTS OFF is a great resource and HERE you will find a list of coupons that have been discovered as fraudulent. If you suspect a coupon but it’s not listed, know that it simply may not be added yet. Follow your gut instinct!
- RAINCHECKS: Walmart offers rainchecks when items are out of stock (unless otherwise indicated). Get these as they are your way to making sure you get your products and your savings! This also buys you time to gather more coupons. Walmart rainchecks can be obtained at the customer service desk (or at checkout).
- OTHER STORE’S COUPONS: Walmart does NOT accept competitor coupons.
- REUSABLE BAGS: Walmart offers $0.50 reusable bags. These bags can save on the budget, but know that they do not have the hard flat surface at the bottom (a feature I tend to appreciate).
- MARKDOWNS: Walmart always has markdowns throughout the store. You are more likely to find the retail markdowns on the endcap farthest from the main aisle and down the center aisles. I like to shop the end caps as they are not as readily seen and sometimes hold great gems!
