Here are the highlights of this week’s Meijer sale.  You will find these and many other deals in the printable version below.

I have received lots of comments and emails regarding issues with doubling this past week.  If you are in the Greater Cincinnati area, I recommend taking your ad with you (or grabbing one at the store).  If you are not local, check the last page of your ad and take it with you. Our ad (bottom of final page) states the coupon doubling policy and these issues SHOULD NOT be happening.  That said, I did structure this week’s matchups to show prices with doubling and without.

I am interested to hear your experiences with coupons this week and whether or not you have any issues.  I can then take this to my corporate rep and see what’s going on.  Thanks!

K,
Many people were having issues with coupons doubling when they said DO NOT DOUBLE. They were also having issues with items that cost $0.97 – the coupons would go through for $0.50 (or whatever) and they could not get the additional $0.47 due to them.

Jennifer,
I just went and checked. I always double check links before I list them, so let me go back here in a little bit and see if maybe I linked to the wrong place. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have already talked with one of the store managers at eastgate meijers about this issue. They are telling the cashiers that if a coupon says dnd then they are not supposed to double it. The coupons that go thru are obviously doubling even when they say dnd. The problem is, when a coupon beeps and it requires cashier interevention the cashier is purposely not doubling the coupon because of the wording and because that is what management is telling them to do. When I questioned the manager about this he told me “sorry but we have to go by the wording on the coupon”. And I told him that it was their policy to double two like coupons. Needless to say, I walked out of there with my coupons not doubled. I just recently experienced this at the milford store as well.

We shop at the Meijer in florence and our coupons wouldn’t double and the cashier told us that since they said “do not double” on them that she couldn’t force it through, which I know is not true. It is what the bar code says and the bar code had a 5 in front of it which means regardless of th wording it should double. Please keep on Meijer about this. It is very frustrating.

I had the same thing happen in West Chester, so this isn’t really the policy then? They’ve doubled all coupons for years, how irritating.

I was just at the West Chester Meijer yesterday and did not have an issue with coupons doubling. But maybe that was a fluke.

I went to the meijer at loveland and the cashier did not double coupons that say “do not double”…it took her a long time to examine each coupon looking for the details on each coupon. Had I known, I would not have bought some items

I was at Eastgate and was asked to leave. The manager said no more than 2 transactions and 6 coupons. They told me I was not allowed any more transactions after I took a load to my car and went back in. It was hard/upsetting/humiliating. The director wouldn’t do anything about it.

Anonymous – I have never heard of this happening before. I am so sorry you had such an experience. I have an email in to my contact at corporate and I am hopeful to hear something back soon.

The comment about 6 coupons….do you mean 6 total?

She couldn’t give us a straight answer. I went in with someone to help them get food for a food bank. I did my transactions at one register and they did theirs at another. I separated my orders and had them all organized with the coupons. While I was on my 2nd order the phone rang and the cashier told me it was her manager and she could only allow me 2 transactions. I didn’t argue b/c my friend doesn’t want stores to stop them from getting large quantities for the food bank. When I went to my friend at their register I told them what happened. The cashier there said, “I’ve never heard that.” As my friend proceeded to do 5 transactions. We took our stuff to the car and then went back to do 2 transactions at a time. My friend went through the register first. While my friend was checking out the phone rang. The cashier said, “OK.” When it came my turn to ring up the cashier got on the phone and said, “It’s me. Ok, bye.” She started to ring me and then the manager came over and said, “Ma’am, how many times have you been in here today?” I started to open my mouth and my friend said, “Just these 2 trips.” The manager looked surprised that we were together and the humiliation began. She told us we were not allowed to have anymore transactions and that we were only allowed to use 6 coupons at a time. My friend stopped the store director and the director said he’d have to talk to his bosses to see if we could shop like that. THEY WERE WATCHING ME IN THE STORE!!! They knew when I was at the checkout. I was so so upset. Before I started seriously couponing, I never shopped anywhere but Meijer! I was also upset that they chose me to single out and there was my friend doing the exact same thing! Then the next day another friend of mine went in and duplicated the transactions were trying to do and even says she talked to the exact same manager and had NO PROBLEMS! I’m not sure I’ll ever go back there again.

Becky,
First, I’d like to say if I ever experience or see someone experience an episode like annonymous is describing above, I will be done with that store! NO price is worth that!!
Anyway, I did have 2 cpns that didn’t double on one Meijer visit last week, I think because with the Meijer Mealbox doubling the .60/6 Dannon yogurt would have been .10 over cost. I think they should have “adjusted” it instead of leaving at face value, but am unsure if it was due to a busy, confused cashier or not. When I went Sat. (diff store- first was West Chester, Sat was Loveland), I experienced NO prob. All cpns dbld, adjusting some down if they would have been “over”. I mess up at times and forget and use more than 2 like cpns, which of course they won’t dbl. I also encountered a .50 off Green giant Steamers being the “same” cpn as a .50 off 2 Green Giant boxed veg, not dbling, but overall was relieved I had no real problems. Due to a big order and trying to”count” for the get the 11th item free, I did no extra transactions, but my experience was positive. If they do stop dbling cpns I will shop there less, as it will make there deals less appealing and a headache!! I already buy what is same cost at Kroger since they don’t give the 2 like cpn hassle!! It is nice to keep shelves stocked, but can’t we police ourselves?? They are not going to stop the “shelf clearers” easily anyway, so… Actually, that is my biggest gripe with Meijer – out of stock on big sale items!! I will say I find the Meijer in Loveland to be one of the best!! Thanks for all your help!! We all need to send a “message”!

Becky,
First, I’d like to express my empathy to annonymous above. If I ever experience, or SEE anyone else experience anything like she described, I will be DONE with that store!!
NO price is worth that humiliation, and I won’t watch it either!!
Anyway, I

To add to anonymous’s post, I have also had some of the cashiers at the eastgate store tell me that I could only do two transactions at a time. And just a couple of weeks ago I had a cashier tell me that I could only use 6 like coupons at a time. They were all for 1.00 on one particular product.

Becky, thanks for doing a .50 and under list cause that is my stockup price that I go for. Love it.

I am seriously at a loss for words after reading all of this. I really don’t know what to say and that does not happen often.

Meijer does reserve the right to limit number of coupons. Six seems a bit odd to me b/c they are running 10 for $10 deals. It seems you could use at least 10 for the 10 possible items that they are promoting if you selected to go the route of buying 10 of the one item (as advertised in their ads).

I emailed my rep today and let him know that A) Meijer is becoming increasingly harder to cover with all of this confusion and worse yet B) consumers are really REALLY upset with all of this. I am going to send him this post so he (and his superiors) can read your comments, experiences and thoughts. Please continue to leave your thoughts as this is how they know what’s going on in their stores and with the consumers.

I have no doubt that they will take this seriously and will reply.

Please check out this link as it states their newest release of coupon policies. It does not discuss doubles as this is regional and not everyone gets to have their coupons doubled (EY!).

I will let you know as soon as I hear back and in the mean time, please feel free to continue to discuss your thoughts and feelings on this.

UGH!

I really don’t care (well…that isn’t true exactly!) what a store’s policy is….but I want to *know* what that policy is and have it uniformly enforced.

I went to the West Chester Meijer last week. I had a IP coupon for 0.50 for Halls Cough Drops which did not double (it was one of those that said DO NOT DOUBLE). The price for Halls was less than $1.00, I think 0.93, but I did not get the balance 0.43 back. Worried about going back this week, too much hassle and harrassment at the checkout with coupons.
Becky want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do that help us save money.

I just wanted to let you know that I have been in contact with my rep at Meijer corporate and they are looking into this and hopefully I will have something more to share with you soon.

I sent this post and your comments so they could read first hand what you (the consumers) are feeling and experiencing.

This is alittle off topic but,I had one the most humilating experiences at Meijer coldcreek/colerain store.
I’m 8 months pregnate and on WIC.

WIC now has vouchers for fruit/vegtables,I was attempting to use one and had a cashier that refused to allow me to buy cut up fruit and vegies {not fruit trays} that are allowed.

I asked to see the manager and was told that anything that caused her employees labor I could not receive and she kept calling it welfare.
I was so humilated there was a line behind me and Paula the manager was really loud about it.
I am making a complant with WIC. If the store does not honer the vouchers thay can lose the contract.

Bonnie,
I had a cashier at Eastgate argue with me once that I couldn’t buy fat free milk because the voucher said skim. I told her they were the same thing and that I have done it for 4 years now. She said, “they are NOT the same thing and we will just SEE if it goes through.” It went through and no apology she also argued with me getting cheese because wic is discontinuing it. Wic told me as long as I still had the voucher I could get it. She again said, “We’ll just see if it goes through.” When it did, again nothing but attitude. I agree with you. Money is so tight right now and I’m so tired of being embarrassed and ashamed to use coupons or wic.

I still haven’t been to Eastgate Meijer since the manager made me leave.

I was in Meijer today, Colerain. All of my coupons doubled appropriately. The issue is the Meijer mealbox coupons. NONE of them are scanning (had this same issue with a friend at the Meijer in Oakley). I was using the self checkout. The gal overseeing the area came over and was able to override everything. But, I’m really annoyed that their own mealbox coupons aren’t working properly. The employee was very nice and aplogized profusely…it wasn’t her fault. Something isn’t programmed right somewhere.

Becky, I was just curious if you had talked to your rep and where we all stand with doubling! I don’t think they realize what a big issue it is, b/c if I can get items that I don’t use myself for free or very cheap, then I buy more and donate them. But if the q won’t double, then I probably won’t want to spend the money. Thanks for all your hard work!
